DiverScènes: The Ecstasy of World Music on the Outskirts of Le Mans
Born in 2014, the DiverScènes festival has established itself as the go-to event for world music and dance in the Le Mans metropolitan area. Supported by the DiverScènes association, this winter festival unfolds from January to March between Changé and Coulaines, two neighboring towns of Le Mans, with extensions into Le Mans itself.
Tarab at the Heart of the Festival
DiverScènes places the concept of tarab at the center of its approach—in Arabic, this profound emotion, this ecstasy, this communion of the senses between the spectator and the performer that allows the soul to be expressed in the whirlwind of music and dance. Each edition is an invitation to a sonic and choreographic journey across continents.
Concerts, Workshops, and Lectures
The DiverScènes program mixes concerts by international and local artists, world dance workshops (Bollywood, Maghrebi dances, African dances), "conférences gesticulées", and DJ sets. Food services accompany the concerts, creating a festive and friendly atmosphere. The festival hosts prestigious groups such as Gnawa Diffusion, the Orchestre National de Barbès, and DJ Prosper.
Two Venues, Two Towns, One Energy
The festival is shared between the Centre François Rabelais in Changé and the Espace culturel Henri Salvador in Coulaines, with complementary events at the Ligue de l'enseignement in Le Mans. This distribution across several towns reflects the desire to spread world music beyond urban borders, in a spirit of sharing and cultural openness.
